My studio is all torn up...
Power saws and blades, hammers and nails,
rulers, tapes and levels,
have replaced my paints and glass, clay,
paper and gourds...
and all chaos reigns in the space that houses
our guestroom and the nook where I create...
New counters and shelves are going in...
and a whole new awareness of gratitude
for having a space to create in...

I was having so much fun
visiting with friends
old and new...
meeting new people...

like my sweet husband here
in the house of gourds...
like my piece Hesperia,
who won an award,
but alas, did not sell
as her price was a bit high
for the occasion...
She was greatly admired,
which did make my heart swell with gratitude...
done with such class,
delicious food, wine, music
and for such a good cause,
feeding and nourishing those so in need...
for what I will create for next year!

Materials used: ProSculpt and Apoxie Sculpt clay, alcohol inks and acrylic paints, gold foil, Pearl-ex powders, glass beads, amethyst stones from Crystal Channels, Swarovski Crystals from Legendary Beads, both stores in Santa Rosa, and bark, twigs, and roots from our garden.

This is the one that I'll remember years from now...
for it was created when eb first announced with glee
her idea coming to fruition,
of a Bloglandia Ball,
where our creativity can be shared and danced
and celebrated...
This dress
comes from the divas in our yard...
and wears the memory
of Summer turning into Fall...
and the joy that comes when we dance
with our muses and each other...

Here are a few of my dresses so far,
to give you a peek,
and some inspiration if needed...
One blogging friend said she might wear
only roses... strategically placed...
Another friend may be wearing gold rings
in her ears and swearing like a sailor...
So... anything you can think of will be wonderful!!!
Here is my mermaid ~ water dress,
with a seaweed stole...
There are little mermaids swimming and playing
throughout the waves, treasures, and seaweed of the dress...
and even a crown with shells, stars, waves,
and a very happy mermaid...
This second dress is more of a fire and air dress...
irredescencent folds fire the imagination,
while silver sparkles, gold beads, and blue silk...
enables you to dance throughout the night...
Why this dress... can even dance on its own!!!!
but in case I do get a little bit tired
and need to rest my feet...
I do have a mermaid's chair to relax into...
as I watch the other belles of the ball...

Here are some answers to your questions about the piece I'm creating for Calabash: A Celebration of Gourds, Art, & The Garden to be held on October 7, 2007 at Food For Thought in Forrestville, CA.
For me, he is a she!!!! But I love it when a piece can be so androgynous that the viewer's imagination can interact with the piece exactly as they wish...
Yes, the gourd pieces submitted to the Calabash fund raiser to feed persons affected by AIDS are exceptional. I feel quite honored to have been invited to participate. The Food For Thought food bank is an amazing place. Beautiful gardens surround the AIDS grocery store in Forrestville. The gourd I used was actually grown and donated to Food For Thought for this auction. For those of you near by... this would be a great Sunday road trip!!!
The clay face, which is now attached to the top of the gourd... was sculpted from ProSculpt Clay. I showed you the very bare bones of the beginning of my piece, a peek into my world! I also used Apoxie Sculpt clay, alcohol and acrylic paints, Pearl-ex powders, glass beads, amethyst stones from Crystal Channels, Swarovski Crystals from Legendary Beads, both stores in Santa Rosa,and bark, twigs, and roots from our garden. The pictures you have yet to see of her finished... don't quite do her justice, but do show one side of her emerging story...
